Alex is back with another song this time and it is an adaptation of American singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen’s “Why by Fire”. The song is already out now on some of the major music platforms and you can listen to it by clicking the link below.–

About the Song

Cohen wrote evocative, mysterious lyrics honed by just enough repetition to bestow folkloric transcendence. In this song, it is believed that the lyrics are inspired during his career performing for the Israeli Defense Forces fighting in the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

A deep observation seems to indicate that Cohen was fascinated by war. In “Tower of Song,” he compared performing with fighting: “Now, I bid you farewell, I don’t know when I’ll be back/They’re movin’ us tomorrow to the tower down the track.”

It is said that the singer himself was struggling at that time after arriving to Israel in 1973. He was considering giving up his career in music and was having a hard time trying to accept his role as a father. With no military experience and no idea what he would do in the war, the singer soon found solace performing for the Israeli soldiers.

Cohen’s take on war through his music is fascinating as there are many historical and religious alliterations attached. Alex Genadinik brings a fascinating take on this through his own musical adaptation and it is not the first time we are seeing him do it.
