The Milgram Reverie is a perfect epitome of how upcoming new bands and artist are experimenting with new forms of orchestration and are welcome to unprecedented access to the widest pallet of sound. Couple this with the innovations made in electronic sound design and the limits are endless.

Their new album titled “In-Formation Desert” is ambitious and includes a total of 17 tracks. If you are wondering what the theme of the music is all about, then on some level, the album appears to be a concept album. This belief is supported by the opening track “Nocebo”. The first sounds that hits the ear are near-eastern percussive strings that comes supported by distorted guitars and eventually a wild string part, which ofcourse sounds beautiful. This shift in textures and tones give a ballet-like impression to the song.

In another track “Wanderer”, listeners are treated to a guitar part that will remind one of modern day guitarists like Tim Hensen and chaps like the Unprocessed. The style is ballad like but the vocals sound amazing. There is a personal edge to the track as the tracks sound confessional and the mood of the song is bolstered by sparse instrumentation.

Track no. 6 “Change the Channel” navigates through the space between the metal expertly and world music. The track sounds fast-paced with clean vocals beautifully affected and with rhythmic growling guitars. One might end up associating this song with hardcore version of Sneaker Pimps.

One track that stands out from the rest is track no. 9 “Receptor”. The song is pop-sensible but is twisted, which is not unlike something one would hear in early “Bjork”. The juxtaposition between smooth ethereal vocals and chugging of the guitars is just beautiful.

The title track of the song “In-formation Desert” features some female vocals over an acoustic guitar strumming beautiful chords and harsh rhythmic bass. Much like other songs from the album, the song develops orchestrally, which is quite the feat for a composition.

There are 17 tracks in this album. Even though this blog talks on selective tracks, the song is already out on some of the major social media platforms. You can click on the links below –
